Extreme Voice was one of Nortel Networks’ shining internal Voice over IP projects during the Internet boom. Despite the cutting edge nature of the technology being developed, HR struggled to attract new talent to the team. A look at the North American employment market revealed that the quickest way to success was to hire from within Nortel, and that’s where attention was directed. bv02 quickly designed and developed an internal recruitment campaign that was guaranteed to pique the interest of key Nortel employees.

Playing off the name of the division, bv02 recruited a Canadian personality who embodied the term ‘extreme voice’, namely Ed the Sock of Much Music fame. His gruff demeanour and ‘in your face’ attitude was perfect, and allowed bv02 to leverage the VoIP technology at hand. The cornerstone of the campaign became time sensitive voicemails from Ed the Sock designed to generate a buzz amongst targeted recruits.
