Recently, you’ve probably heard a lot about eLearning and online education. Digital tools are impacting all levels of education, and assessment has become a critical part of the emerging eLearning landscape.  To celebrate the dedicated work of teachers across the world on International Teacher’s Day, I’d like to share an amazing project bv02 has been involved in over the past few years that looks at assessment in a different way.

The Help Me Tell My Story assessment is a holistic assessment model for early childhood oral language skills, and it’s unlike any other assessment model that preceded it.  Designed to help measure early language development in First Nations communities, it incorporates traditional content from the communities, feedback from the community Elders and new technology: the survey is administered on an iPad.

Our educational consultant, Jarrett Laughlin, has written a comprehensive overview of what makes this assessment project unique; it’s his first post here on the bv02 blog.  Read more about the Help Me Tell My Story assessment in Jarrett’s blog post, or take a look at the short case study we’ve written up about the program.

Finally, the most important aspect of this assessment is the impact it’s having on children’s education.  Take a look at the following video for a short glimpse of community stakeholders discussing the assessment.
