So You Want To Be An Artist? Now’s your chance, with a little help from the National Gallery of Canada.

They’re challenging you to show off your artistic talent in a nationwide contest: So You Want To Be An Artist? It doesn’t matter if you’re applying for art school, or simply want to deepen your knowledge and skills– if you’re a teen between the age of 16 and 19 years, get out and find your inspiration. Create a two-dimmensional piece of artwork in any media, no larger than 30 x 40 cm,  and submit a digital representation here beginning January 10, 2011.

Be sure to encourage your Facebook friends to vote for your work, because the NGC will invite the top 12 contestants whose entries obtain the most votes to mail in their original artwork for entry into the final jury phase of the contest for your chance to win an all-inclusive two-night stay in Ottawa, a behind-the-scenes tour of the National Gallery of Canada, expert advice on your art portfolio and a $500 gift certificate for art supplies. Teens that live within a 100 km radius of Ottawa will win a $1000 gift certificate in place of the travel portion. Voting begins March 1, 2011.

Visit makeart.gallery.ca for the contest’s full official rules.

The website aside, this project undertaking is a complete web presence involving video, marketing and social media. bv02 is extremely excited to be part of this nationwide campaign that encourages young teens to get involved in the arts. We believe creative and artistic thinking is important, especially in adolescence, as it gives teens a voice and a chance to express themselves.

Good luck!
