To serve as a resource to encourage discussion

Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

In 2009, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner partnered with bv02 to address a pressing concern at that time, Deep Packet Inspection.

The mission of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) is to protect and promote the privacy rights of Canadian citizens. Deep Packet Inspection was a new technology that allowed for the contents of data packets to be examined by telecommunications providers, and thus was a potential hotbed of privacy concerns. The Privacy Commissioner needed to communicate with the Canadian public about this new tool, and thus the Deep Packet Inspection website was created as a resource on the new technology and its uses, benefits and problems. Along with the new site, bv02 also developed and executed a successful social media strategy that took advantage of multiple social channels to encourage discussion around deep packet inspection and similar technologies. This initiative provided the Office of the Privacy Commission with the tools to communicate effectively with Canadians online and fulfill its mandate.
